Fred "Richard" Wood, Sr., age 75, of Baker Circle, Granite Falls, died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1943 in Wilkes County to the late Beemer and Agnes Moore Wood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Wood.
Mr. Wood had worked as a machinist for Bernhardt Furniture and was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was a great friend and a true gentleman. He loved his church and his church family and enjoyed gardening. Richard dearly loved his pets.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Geraldine Trivette Wood of the home; four sons, Joey F. Wood, Jeff Smith and wife Lorrie, all of Lenoir and Ricky Wood of Hildebran, and Mikael Smith of Collettsville; two daughters, Crystal Church and husband Romey of Granite Falls and Ann Oakley and fiance Daniel Turner of Hudson; two brothers, Albert Wood and wife Ella of Granite Falls and Gene Wood of Lenoir; four sisters, Rosalee Myers of Chesapeake Bay, MD, Mabel Turnmire and Pat White, both of Lenoir and Vicky Bradshaw of Granite Falls; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Grandview Park Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Raymond Spann. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. one hour prior to the service at the church.
