John Boyd I was born in Antrim County, Ireland in 1747. John married Martha Mahan in Ireland then shortly afterwards moved to the ‘new world'. How they arrived here is still a mystery. At the time of the Revolutionary War, many enlisted men were promised land for their duties performed as a soldier. Therefore John Boyd enlisted. He became a Revolutionary soldier. John started his career as a soldier at the beginning of the war in North Carolina. John served seven years under General Green and Captain Smith. He was a scout much of the time and one of the benefits of a scout involved being the first one to be shot at. John was wounded several times in line of duty.
After the war John and his family moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania between Cross Creek Village and Middletown. He became a tailor. In 1793 the family moved to Hanover Township, Washington County. Then around 1800 the family made their last move to Hanover Township in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. John died in 1840 and is buried in Kings Creek Cemetery.
