It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Elizabeth Prince, known by most as Grandma, announce her passing after a brief illness, on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Joan was born in Milbank, SD on October 14, 1933. Joan moved out to the Seattle area in the early 1940’s. She went to Catholic school and graduated from Holy Angels High School. She established herself as working for her family restaurant. Joan lived in her home in Ballard, WA where she spent most of her life. She and her husband, Jim would love to go camping and fishing with friends and family. They would also love to go out dancing. After she lost her husband at a young age, she focused herself on her children and grandchildren and never looked back. The kids kept her busy. She loved to be involved in their various activities they each had, as well as host many game nights at her house. Her passions were bowling, playing cards, and crocheting various blankets for the family. As the years got later, this was harder for her to do, so she chose to move to a condo in Edmonds, WA in 2007. She was the Seattle Mariner’s #1 fan. She would keep stats at home, as well as yell at them through the tv when they just wouldn’t perform quite how she wanted. She even had her Mariner’s room in her condo with all the keepsakes she treasured...
Joan will lovingly be remembered by her children George (Michelle) Miller, & Gail (Roy) Schmidt and Stepdaughter Pattie Gardner... Grandma will also fondly be remembered and missed by her grandkids: Greg Miller, Stephene (Roderick) Holmes, Mike (Amanda) Miller, Jeff (Jennifer) Miller, Marie (Greg) Alexander, Robby Miller, Jennifer (Tyson) Fall, Kristina (Gabriel) Acevedo; and her Great-Grandchildren Ryan, Morgan, Zachery S., Maddie, Audrey, Brodie, Nate, Ethan, Noah, Zachery F., Kameron and Parker. Joan was predeceased by her husband, James Prince, parents, George & Stella Van Hout, Step-son, Jimmy Prince, and great-grandson, Brayden Alexander.
Grandma will be missed by many, but we will always remember her genuine smile, her quirky comments, and her" Hey Diddle Diddle" that she sung to all her grand-kids and great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on forever. It always brings a smile to each one of their faces.
A funeral service in memorial of Joan will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 1:00pm at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood, WA.
