George and Mary met in a make-shift hospital in Dover, where he was a
patient and she was a nurse helping care for the wounded in the fighting of Fort Donelson. They were married after the end of the war and settled on the Daniel Cherry land near Saline Creek. Around 1900 the family purchased land between the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers near a small country village called Model, Tennessee.
