James Edward “Jim” Chewning, 84, of Landis passed away on July 11, 2018 at his home.

He was born January 1, 1934 in Cabarrus County, a son of George Tom Chewning and Lundy Harwood Chewning. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Preston Chewning and a sister, Bobbie Stikeleather.

Jim was owner/operator of Quality Motors and Tires of Kannapolis for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1953-55 where he was a Sergeant.

Jim was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. He loved his church and his church family. Jim enjoyed classic cars and going to classic car shows.

Jim was the best husband, daddy and grandfather that a family could have.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 13, 2018 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Wes Judy. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior from 10 to 11.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sadie C. Chewning, four children, James E. Chewning, Jr (Linda), Patricia Keener (Rex), Joyce Daugherty (David), Michael Chewning, 8 grandchildren, Michelle Fisher, Jamie Chewning (Rebecca), Alan Keener (April), Ryan Keener (Lauren), Chase Daugherty (Nichole), James Daugherty (Kaitlyn), Ashlyn Chewning, Kaitlyn Chewning, 7 great grandchildren, Ava Ferguson, TJ Fisher, JJ Chewning, Anna Keener, Laney Keener, Luke Keener, Elliot Chewning and a sister, Sue Wilson (Hank).
Pallbearers will be Chase Daugherty, James Daugherty, Ryan Keener, Jamie Chewning, Travis Fisher and Chandler Shirley.
