He was the 5th and last child, and the only one born in Texas. On his last day while still in bed, he asked his wife (Ruby) to get up and brew coffee. From the kitchen she heard him cough and came back into the bedroom and found him dead. The doctor had told him the day before that he had indigestion. His mother told a farm hand, Adrian King (AKA Tryflin) to dig the grave a full six feet deep. For a while Herman farmed what we called the "Herman Place" south of Goodwyn Road and east of Gillespie Road in south Ellis County, Texas. ~ John Goodwyn 7/12/2018
