Funeral services were held Tuesday July 10th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Rev. John Paulson officiated. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery rural Wessington Springs.

Gladys Fagerhaug was born to Charley and Kari (Vognild) Bergeleen in Beadle County on June 15, 1921. She lived there with her parents and five brothers until she was an eighth grader. Her family then moved to a farm southwest Wessington Springs. She finished her eighth grade year at Central School in Crow Lake Township. She attended high school in Wessington Springs and graduated in 1940. Through the help of a PEO scholarship, she was able to attend Augustana College and received a two year teaching certificate. She taught one year and then joined the National Lutheran Council to work with pastors in defense areas.

On March 11, 1945, she married Kenneth Fagerhaug and they moved to a farm 16.5 miles southwest of Wessington Springs. They had four sons. In 1970, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Huron College. For 30 years she taught school at Central and Crow Lake Central Schools and also did substitute teaching for a few years in Wessington Springs.

After 38 years of living on the farm, Kenneth and Gladys moved to Wessington Springs. While living in town, Gladys cared for Lisa, Teri and Erin Bergeleen, until the twins were school age. This was a very special time for her.

Her interests included reading, embroidery, making pies, and enjoying her grandkids. She loved her family and enjoyed following the musical talents of her children and grandchildren.
