He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea.
Following military service he worked as a welder for many years in Antigo at Wisconsin Bridge and Iron and in Merrill at Merrill Manufacturing. Ray later held positions in maintenance work at Prange Way department store, the Langlade County Health Care Center and the City of Antigo Parks Recreation and Cemetery department, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Prasalowicz and fiancee Mike Thielman of Antigo, Carol (Mike) Nisiewicz, Arcadia; nine Grandchildren, Angie Gilpin, LaCrosse, Gail (Nathan) Balts, Elk Mound, Anthony Gilpin, Eau Claire, Brandon Gilpin, Elk Mound, Bradley Gilpin, Arcadia, Samantha (Bill) Drewek, Bryant, Ashley Prasalowicz and fiancee Cody, Antigo, Joseph (Brittany) Prasalowicz, Birnamwood, Jessica (Tony) Friday, New London; 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son Wayne Lawrence, a son-in-law James Prasalowicz, a sister Eileen Capista.
A funeral service will be held on Friday October 20, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Summit Lake.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
Antigo veterans will stand honor guard on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services and provide military rites following the services at the funeral home.
