Gregory P. Peterson, 69, of Washburn, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Ashland, WI. He was born on May 23, 1948, the first child to Harold and Dorothy Peterson in Washburn, WI. The role of firstborn would shape his life.
Greg started kindergarten at DuPont Grade School well after he began reading his parents' encyclopedias. He graduated from Washburn High School as valedictorian in 1966. Following high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and remained a Badgers fan throughout his life.

After college, he returned to Washburn to work for his father in the family business, Peterson M & E. He later worked for Sarver Electric. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf and participated in bowling leagues. Greg retired several years ago but still enjoyed building things and helping others make repairs. He never met a tool he didn't like and saw the untapped potential in a piece of wood. He was a voracious reader, never forgetting an author or fact, knew the words to every George Strait song, and had a quiet intellect equaled by few. He was a very private person with a kind heart that struggled to get out.

He was preceded in death by his proud mother, Dorothy G. Peterson, father, Harold L. Peterson, brother Bruce H. Peterson, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his sister Barbara Williams, nieces Brandi Mayhall (Tony) and Ellen Williams, nephew Scott Jenicek, a grand niece and nephew Langley and Hagen Mayhall, and many cousins.

His wishes were that no funeral services be held. None will take place. However, plans will be made for a gathering at Washburn's Memorial Park this summer, where Greg spent his teenage summers as a lifeguard and his professional talents lit the campsites for visitors.
