Vera Scott
Vera Parshook Scott, 87, of Butler passed away Thursday at UPMC Passavant.
She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Russia to the late Archie Parshook and Mary (Griskevich) Parshook.
Mrs. Scott was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church in New Kensignton. She was a graduate of Arnold High School in 1943 and then graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.
Mrs. Scott taught Russian at Penn State University for the War Department post World War II. She was a secretary and translator at the American Embassy in Moscow. Mrs. Scott was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting.
Mrs. Scott is survived by five children, John Richard Scott Jr. of Shaler, William Leon Scott of Butler, Valentina Kay and her husband, Thomas, of Harrisville, Keira Marie Wulff and her husband, Barry, of Butler and Thaisa Scott of Butler; seven grandchildren; one brother, Leon Parshook and his wife, Eleanor, of Lower Burrell; and one sister-in-law, Joann Parshook of New Kensington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. "Jack" Scott, who passed away on Dec. 8, 2003; one son, Leon Scott, who passed away on May 18, 1990; three sisters; and one brother.
SCOTT - Friends of Vera Parshook Scott, who died Thursday, April 4, 2013, will be received Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at noon with the Rev. Nikolai Breckenridge and the Rev. Paul Ziatyk of St. John the Baptist Church in New Kensington officiating. Burial will take place in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 150 Elmtree Road, New Kensington, PA 15068.
