Bob was born and raised in Westlake, Ohio, to the late Theodore and Esther (Deffner) Beckmann. Mr. Beckmann was an elementary school teacher and principal for 32 years. Serving at Grace Lutheran School, Bronx, NY, St. John's Lutheran School, Elyria, Ohio, and St. Paul's Christian Day School, Providence, RI. He was an Alumnus of Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois, and received his Master’s in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College. Mr. Beckmann had been secretary for the board of regents of Concordia College, Bronxville, NY. He was an accomplished organist and choir director for several Lutheran churches at which he served as teacher and principal. In his retirement, he worked for Christansen's Dairy, North Providence RI and later Professional Security in which he was posted at the Harris Public Library in Woonsocket, RI.
Bob loved life. He was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Providence College Friars men's basketball. He enjoyed playing golf and volunteering at the TPC Boston Golf Tournament. He loved caring for his summer garden, his yard, and reading in the sun on his lounge chair in the backyard. He shared regular trips with his wife to their favorite vacation spot on Cape Cod. He also enjoyed communicating with old and new friends online, crossword games, and being an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He was the beloved father of the late Amy Beckmann who preceded him in death in 1976.
