Freda M. (Mullens) Martin, 88, of Peru, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Manor Court of Peru, surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 3194 IL Route 251 in LaSalle with Pastor Tom McMurtry officiating. Private burial will be Monday in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru and 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Mrs. Martin was born December 4, 1929 in Effingham to James and Esther (Hedges) Mullens. She met her husband, Levon “Marty” Martin at the Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison, WI and they were later married at the Red Oak United Methodist Church in Walnut. He passed away July 26, 1982. Freda was raised in Normal and attended University High School for three years. She graduated from Ohio High School in Ohio, IL, where she attended for her senior year. During her year in Ohio, Freda lived with Henry and Harriet Albrecht. Freda worked at Walmart for 23 years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in LaSalle and later was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in LaSalle. She was loving, caring and compassionate to her family and friends and will be sorely missed. Survivors include four children, Stephen (Letitia) Martin of Seatonville, Robert (Nora) Martin of New Berlin, WI, Sheree Kutter of Peru and William (Lauren) Martin of Melbourne Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren, Lori (Darin) Thomas, Stephanie (Norman) Cogdal, Gary Martin Jr., Amy Martin, Grant Martin, Jody (Mark) Martin-Jackson, Nicole (Brad) Parker, Christopher Martin, Rebecca (David) Moon and Daniel Martin; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gary Martin Sr.; three sisters and three brothers. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lighthouse Baptist Church in LaSalle.
