Born Jan. 16, 1931, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late B. Leroy Pope and Rena Belle Hollar Pope.
Ruby was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont and had retired from Conover Chair Company.
Her caring and nurturing spirit and love for family led her to be the caretaker for many of her brothers, sisters, and extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Reed; sisters, Sudie P. "Tine" Lail, Edith P. Sigmon, Josie P. Franks, Mary B. Pope and Esther Pope; and brother, Kenneth Pope.
Ruby is survived by her two daughters, Karen Reed of Newton and Kim Williams and husband, Eric, of Newton; grandchildren, Michelle Shope of Newton, April Byles and husband, Scot, of Newton, Emily Williams of Hickory, and Owen Williams of Newton; great-grandson, Nicholas Byles; sister, Brenda Abernathy; brothers, Billy Pope of Conover, Johnny Pope of Conover, and Jerry Pope of Conover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ruby's life and funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 13, at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ramey and the Rev. Eric Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Friday.
