Lloyd Barney Thornton, born June 1922 in Raleigh, MS, served in World War II and married Marie Goddard in 1944. They raised their two children in Pooler, GA and were active members of Pooler First Baptist Church. Barney worked for Union Camp, retiring in 1984, and was a 50 year member of the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. In his spare time Barney enjoyed fishing and meeting new people. He was known to strike up a conversation and make a new friend wherever he went. Barney moved to Bellingham, WA by way of Grand Forks, ND in 2011. Barney is survived by his two children: Harold William Thornton and Betty Jean Thornton as well as his daughter-in-law: Rosemary Thornton. Barney's grandchildren are Emily Towns, Jeff Thornton, and Jennifer Carter. He has four great-grandchildren who were blessed to have him in their lives. He is survived by two sisters Mildred Duffey, Elois Brown, and a brother Orban Thornton. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 1st at 11am at Forest Lawn Chapel Mausoleum in Savannah, GA.
