After high school Roy volunteered for the Army when his brother in law was drafted. They attended basic training together. Roy was honorably discharged after his two year obligation ended. He then joined the Washington National Guard where he made his career. He retired on October 25, 1990. Roy then drove bus for the Clover Park School District for fifteen years.
