Doris “Jean” Lucas was born in Kendrick, Oklahoma on March 26, 1941 and passed away on July 7, 2018 in Oklahoma City, OK. Jean grew up in Kendrick, OK and graduated from Kendrick High School in 1959. She loved to play basketball and she said that’s what made her want to go to school. She married Frank Lucas and had two girls Roma Lea Rogers and Ginger Gayle Taylor. They built two businesses together in Houston; South Texas Parts and Machine and Water Beds by Aquarius. Jean wrote the first air conditioning manual for semi’s ever put into print and she could remember every part number in Auto Air Conditioning. She was quite a mechanic and a business woman. She could install an air conditioner in a car by herself as well as run the office and she did both well. Later in life she was divorced and moved back to Oklahoma where she went to work in the Parts Business at Custom Auto with Ron Buster. In 1980 it was bought by the Hollands and became Auto Air. She worked with Roy Holland for many years and they were a pair. Both Ron and Roy became lifelong friends. She later married Teddy Cumpston, who preceded her in death, and they loved spoiling the grandkids. If the grandkids wanted something special, Nana or Teddy got it for them. They enjoyed fishing and camping with family. She always had the radio on and loved country music. She could name any song on the radio and who was singing it. Her love of music included TV where The Voice and American Idol were two of her favorite TV shows. Momma would have loved a concert for her send off! She also loved football and was an avid OU fan. She didn’t miss a game if she knew it was on. She cheered for OSU too unless they were playing the Sooners. Momma loved Facebook so she could see all the pictures of everyone’s kiddos and stay in touch with her friends and family. Her home was always open to everyone, literally. She had the biggest heart and she treated everyone like family. She was always adopting kids and everyone called her Mama Jean or Nana, but mostly Nana. Even the nurse that cared for her in the hospital called her Mama Jean. Being a Nana was truly her greatest joy in life. She loved her babies so much and her little dog, Chula, who doesn’t know she is a dog. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. She fought hard! A big thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff on the 9th Floor for the care and love they gave momma.
Jean is survived by her daughters; Roma Rogers and husband Gary, and Ginger Taylor; Son, Steve Taylor; grandchildren, Josh Rogers, Brandy Steelman, Terry Taylor and wife Courtney, Alayna Gonzalez and husband Jose; as well as her Great Grandchildren, Jaxon James Taylor and Lincoln Micah Taylor, Xavior Stevion and Priscilla Gayle Gonzalez, Isla Rose Steelman and Everly Hart Steelman. She will also be missed by her brother, Johnny Ash; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Lester Ash and Minnie L. Ash; brothers and sisters Homer Speer, Venita Jenkins, Raymond Speer, Johnny Speer, Patsy Jenkins, Danny Ash, Jerry Lee Ash, Billy Joe Ash, Billy Don Ash and Raymond Ash; ex-husbands, Frank Lucas and Teddy Cumpston; a grandson Micah Burle Steelman and great-grandson, Grant Matthew Taylor.

A come-and-go visitation will be from 6-8pm on Wednesday, July 11th at Ford Funeral Service. A service celebrating Jean's life will be at 1pm on Thursday, July 12th at Choctaw Road Baptist Church with burial following at Kendrick Cemetery in Kendrick, OK.
