Helen Louise Ritchie Pennington, age 93, of Paris, Kentucky, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at her daughter’s home. She was born October 2, 1924, in Nicholas County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late W.B. and Claudia Lillian Jackson Ritchie. Helen was a “stay-at-home mom” for many years, constantly volunteering at Paris First United Methodist Church and school activities. She was a Sunday school teacher, and homeroom mother and taught 4-H cooking and sewing classes. Later in life, she was employed by the Fleming County Library and drove the bookmobile until she retired 20 years later. Helen was loved by everyone, young and old. She enjoyed life, her friends and especially her family. She always put them first.

Helen was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Rev. Herbert Earl Pennington; three siblings, Elizabeth Buckler, Theodore Ritchie and Jewell Wagoner; and a son-in-law, Marvin F. Darland. She is survived by: two daughters, Melissa Faye Darland and Claudia Ray Sexton; four grandchildren, Jessica Aaron (Larry) Barrett, Jason Robert Sexton, Brandon Earl Darland and Kristen Elizabeth (Donald) Miller; and five great-grandchildren, Jonathan David Moore, Justin Robert Moore, Savannah Faith Barrett, Caitlyn Hope Barrett and Brylee Robert Sexton.

Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, with funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Brandon Darland, Justin Moore, Jonathan David Moore, Larry Barrett and Donald Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Paris First United Methodist Church or Bluegrass Hospice Care.
