Charles Wesley “Mink” Travis, Sr., age 82, passed away unexpectedly at his residence in the Rucker Community Sunday, July 8, 2018. He was a native and life-long resident of Rutherford County and raised in the Salem-Rockvale communities.
Funeral services will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ron Byers officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Sam W. Travis, Sr and Jennie Lou Hendrix Travis; brothers, Aaron Travis and Sam W. “Bud” Travis,Jr; sisters, Joy McDaniel, and Willie Belle Cawthon; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Travis.
Mr. Travis is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sara Frances Jakes Travis; son, Charles Wesley Travis, Jr, and wife, Gaynell; granddaughters, Heather Travis Perkins and husband, Drew, Beth Travis Shull and husband, Nathan; and great grandchildren, Tinley and Addie Perkins and Bailey Shull. He is also survived by sisters, Kathleen “Kat” Donnell of Halls Hill, Dorothy “Dot” Clark, Betty Lou Landon, Mary Ann Fann and husband Melvin all of Murfreesboro, and Edna Davis and husband Lloyd of the Salem Community; and sister-in-law, Marie Travis. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Travis attended Barfield Baptist Church and was retired from Cummings Sign Company after 31 years. He enjoyed working puzzles, his cows, and being outside in nature. He also enjoyed baseball, working in his workshop and could repair almost anything that needed to be fixed.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
