Samuel Wolcott, Jr. was the son of Samuel Wolcott, Sr. and Mercy Fosdick. He was born in Charleston (Boston) Massachusetts.

On 29 Mar 1750 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut, he married Lucy Wright, (daughter of Capt. Samuel Wright and Abigail Goodrich).
He moved his family to Shoreham, VT, by 1773. In 1774, he planted apple trees on his property – later becoming a nursery, furnishing fruit and trees to the neighborhood. He and his son, Samuel, were privates with Ethan Allen's "Green Mountain Boys", who captured Fort Ticonderoga in 1775. Ft. Ticonderoga is located across the Poultney River from Shoreham. The fort was occupied by the British army, but the soldiers stationed there were unaware of the war beginning, and the Americans were able to easily walk in and gain control of the fort. The Wolcott family moved for safety to Cheshire, Massachusetts during the war, and then returned to Shoreham. An account of the early residents of Shoreham, written by Rev. Josiah Goodhue in 1861 says of him: "In the fall of 1773, Samuel Wolcott from Goshen, Connecticut, settled with his family on the farm now owned and occupied by Deacon Almon Wolcott. He and his son, Samuel, were with Ethan Allen's party at the capture of the fort. Becoming alarmed by a party of Indians that appeared in the vicinity, he and his family fled to Berkshire County, Massachusetts, where they remained until 1783. They later returned to the farm they had left. He died of smallpox while on a visit to his son's home in Massachusetts." Samuel & Lucy probably had 12 children:
*Mercy (1728-)
*William (1730-)
*Samuel (1751-1825)
*Jesse (1755-1835)
*Moses (1757-1837)
*Mercy (1758-)
*William (1759-)
*Rebecca (1760-)
*Oliver (1761-1845)
*Lucy Wright (1762-1799)
*Alvin (1765-1834)
*Philemon (1768- )
