Joni Fletcher, 84, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.

A hospitality gathering is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, Moline. Cremation will take place prior to services at Trimble Crematory. A private service will take place to bury Joni along with her husband, Bill, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Animal Care & Control.

The former Joan Ellen Costello was born June 6, 1934, in Carlinville, Illinois, the daughter of Mike and Ellen (Riddle) Costello. She married William Fletcher on July 21, 1952, in Hillsboro, Illinois. Bill served proudly in the U.S. Army. He died December 24, 2007.

She worked 45 years in sales for Montgomery Ward in Rock Island and SouthPark Mall in Moline, retiring as manager of customer service in 2001. On the day after Bill’s retirement, the couple moved to Glendale, Arizona, where they lived for 11 years. Following Bill’s death, Joni moved back to the Quad Cities.

She attended Heritage Church, Rock Island. She was a feisty and strong woman. She enjoyed reading, watching CSI, Law & Order, and CNN, and loved hanging out with her neighbors.

Joni is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Ivan Danay of Moline; a great-granddaughter, India Danay and her fiancé, Bob Winterbottom, of Milan; a sister, Lucille Workman of Franklin, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a grandson, Christopher Danay; and siblings, Ralph, Bill, Jim, and Patrick Costello, Mary Atchison, and Rita Pitchford.
