Thomas Alexander Patton was born July 10, 1848 in Melrose, Nacogdoches County, Texas. The son of Moses Lockhart Patton (1806-1883) and Susan Henrietta Buford (1822-1883). He was reared in Nacogdoches County. Thomas married Julia A. Crain (1851-1889) on September 20, 1870 in Nacogdoches Texas. Their union produced one son

1) Thomas Alexander Patton Jr. (1872-1873)

According to the 1860 Census he was a Student. The 1870 Census have him listed as a Clerk in a store. He passed away December 29, 1874 in Melrose, Nacogdoches County, Texas. He is buried in his families cemetery on what was the Patton Plantation in Melrose.
