A funeral service for Robert Edward Cook, Jr., 92, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo is assisting the family Mr. Cook died Friday, December 29, 2017. Born in Lexington, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Edward Cook, Sr. and Clara Edna Sheely Cook. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. He later worked for Parts Distributors in Columbia. He was a member of American Legion Post #7 in Lexington, The Military Order of the Purple Heart Columbia Chapter and Salem UMC. He loved hunting, fishing, football, NASCAR, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife, Joyce M. Cook of Irmo; son, Robert Michael Cook (Gloria) of Irmo; daughter, Brenda Joyce VanNorman (Rev. David L.) of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Shannon Hoffman (Jason) and Jeremy Scott VanNorman (Paige); great-grandchildren, Delaney Hoffman and Barlow Hoffman; and sister, Sara Cook Loyd of Columbia. He was predeceased by his sisters, Margie Welch and Edna Holcombe.
