Jimmy was born in the old Bristol Memorial Hospital in Bristol, TN and passed away in Johnston Memorial Hospital (Abingdon, VA) from complications of renal failure. His family moved to Lenoir, NC when he was a young boy. He attended public schools in Caldwell County and spend most of his adult life in that area. He was employed by MDI in Hickory, NC for several years. He moved back to Abingdon , VA when his father's health began to fade.
Jimmy was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls his entire life. He especially loved basketball and spent many hours playing the game with his friends. When he made an exceptional shot his favorite phrase was "And the crowd roars...".
Jimmy will long be remembered for his big smile and his wicked sense of humor. He had the most beautiful blue eyes (just like Paul Newman). He loved Rock and Roll music and knew just about every line to every song from his teenage years. He could identify a song within a few notes, an amazing talent.
Jimmy was predeceased by his grandmothers , Ruby Henry Winebarger and Florrie Anderson. His father , Gerald Anderson who he idolized. In the last few years of their lives, they spent countless hours together and often referred to themselves as "Sanford and Son".
He is survived by his mother, Delilah "Dee Dee " Winebarger Anderson, Abingdon, VA , sister Kelly Blake Houston and brother Anthony Dale Anderson and his partner Sheldon Mann, all of Granite Falls, NC. He is also survived by his daughters Tabitha Burk and Micaela Roberts of NC. He leaves behind his beloved aunts ,Media Winebarger Mitchell (John), Mellia Paulette Winebarger Bernabe, Robin Annette Tiller , and his uncle Howard "Pete" Henry (Carol) all of Abingdon, VA.
Jimmy will be sorely missed by his cousins Media Laurie Baldwin Hardy (Steven) of Staunton,VA , Melody Pennell Helton , Bradley Bernabe, and Shannon Tiller all of Abingdon, VA. Special cousins, Randy, Jerry, Bryan , Kelly Sam and Tammy Henry of Laurel Bloomery, TN.
The family appreciates the care given to Jimmy by the many doctors, nurses and staff of Johnston Memorial. The last two years of his life were spent with numerous stays in the hospital , surgeries and treatments.
