Nathaniel Hughes, age 77, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. Nathaniel graduated from Emerson High School, Class of 1959. He worked at U.S. Steel Corporation and retired in 2002. Preceded in death by his parents, Joe Hughes and Rutha B. Hughes; wife, Esterlene Thomas-Hughes; sisters, Gloria Hughes, Helen Wooten and grandson, Marquis Thomas. Nathaniel leaves to continue his legacy, two sons, Nathaniel (Heather) Hughes and Myles Thomas; one daughter, Tracey Owens; sisters, Ora Lee Hughes, Blanche (Horace) Wiley, Josephine Hughes, and Constance Cornish; brothers, Leroy (Laura) Hughes and Lonnie Hughes; Nine grandchildren, Christopher Butler, Christopher Steverson, Destiny Hughes, Myles Thomas, Deavon Davis, Don Davis, Nyesha Davis, Minah and Monia Thomas; a special niece, Kay Yatta Hughes; special nephews, Dameon Walker, Jr., Anthony and Kenneth Wooten, Jr., other loving family members and precious friends. Visitation will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. with Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roosevelt Bradley, Jr. officiating at the Life Church International, 430 East Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408 (219) 980-5555. Burial will be at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN. Nathaniel will be dearly missed by his loving family and precious friends. God Granted Him Eternal Peace.
