Robert Cory Sasser, 41, of Brunswick died Thursday, June 28, 2018. Cory had his Master’s in Criminal Justice. He had several certificates from the Office of Homeland Security & Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Cory was a Lieutenant with the Glynn County Police Department since 2001. He was most recently in the Patrol Division and had previously been a part of GB-Net. Cory received several letters of appreciation from the Glynn County Police Department. Cory was an Adjunct Professor at Troy University since 2014. He was also a Reconnaissance Specialist/Scout Sniper from 1993-2009. Cory was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a Shriner.
Cory was pre-deceased by his wife, Katie Sasser; maternal grandparents, Robert & Jean Young; paternal grandfather, Clifford Sasser; father, Danny Ray Sasser. He is survived by two sons, Bryce Sasser and River Sasser, both of Brunswick; mother, Mary Hamby of Americus, GA.; sister, Ashley (Tim) Newton of Mobile, AL.; brother, Tyrone Sasser of Mobile, AL.; sister, Danette Sasser of Americas, GA; paternal grandmother, Juanita Sasser of Mobile, AL; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; several nieces and nephews that were very close and meant a lot to him.
Family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Daughtry will be officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Hutchinson, Matt Joyner, Kevin Hopkins, Jeff Emory, and Jared Sanford.
Despite the tragic ending of his life he loved his wife, his sons, friends and family more than anything. He was determined to give them all the best in life. His sons were his world and whole heart. He loved them dearly. For those that truly knew Cory knew he was a hard worker, loving father and enjoyed serving our community. He was always there for his loved ones, and all those he served. We find comfort in knowing he is no longer hurting or in pain. He is living high on that mountain with our graceful forgiving God. He will be forever missed.

Mr. Sasser paid a visit to the home of his estranged wife, Katie Settles Sasser. Upon discovering she was with a friend, he shot and killed her. He then exchanged gunfire with her friend, John Hall Jr. , who died as a result of gunshot wounds.
