Melvin L. “Pete” Stewart, age 75, of Syracuse, died unexpectedly from heart failure at 11:03 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Parkview Regional Hospital, Ft. Wayne. He was born December 20, 1942 in Mishawaka to Elmer and Lucille (Mattern) Stewart.

Mr. Stewart lived his lifetime in this area. He was a retired farmer and had also worked for the State Highway Dept. He loved his family and enjoyed farming and old farm equipment.

Surviving are his children, Jerry (Heather) Stewart, Brian Stewart, both of Syracuse, Teresa Andrews, Goshen; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Zumbaugh, Bremen, Betty Morgan, Mishawaka, Ann Mason, South Bend, and Edith Garner, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by a grandson and brothers, Kenneth, Harvey, and Edward Stewart.
