OBIT: MRS. GIBSON, MOTHER OF PASTOR, DIES
Mrs. Gertrude Gibson, 80, of 311 North Hesperia, Collinsville, a former resident of East St. Louis, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday in Christian Welfare Hospital. She had been ill four years.
Mrs. Gibson was the mother of the Rev. Vernal Gibson, who had been the pastor of the Assembly of God Church here 21 years until he transferred to the Assembly of God Church at Macomb, Ill., two years ago.
A native of Clay County, Illinois, Mrs. Gibson had lived here eight years. Before that she had lived in East St. Louis 34 years.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Herbert A. Kassly Chapel. Services also will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Shaufe Chapel in Louisville, Illinois. Burial will be at Louisville.
In addition to the Rev. Mr. Gibson, survivors include a son Noel E. Gibson of the Panama Canal Zone; two sisters, Mrs. Charity Gould of Louisville and Mrs. Lydia Smith of Crossville, Illinois; four brothers, Dr. Cameron Harmon of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Roscoe Harmon of Sarasota, Florida, G.C. Harmon of East Alton, and Dr. John Harmon of Rockport, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
