Tupelo/Cumberland – Ms. Melba Dorothy Hill, 83, died Monday, July 2, 2018 at North MS Medical Center Hospice Unit following an extended illness. She was born June 10, 1935 in Cumberland (Webster Co.), MS, to Ola Edward White and Trudie Elmore White. She was a graduate of Cumberland High School (East Webster High School) and worked as a seamstress in the glove manufacturing industry for many years.

Melba was a Godly woman and longtime member of Midway Church of Christ in Maben, MS before moving to Tupelo. She was a devoted member of West Main Church of Christ where she was active until her health failed. She had a loving heart, always helping others and sitting with the sick and those in need. During her younger years she crocheted many beautiful pieces and more recently enjoyed coloring. Her most precious possession in this life was her family.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 PM, today, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Minister Doug Greenway officiating. A graveside service will follow at 4 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Dancy, MS with Minister Shawn Nygaud officiating. Visitation will be today from 12:30 PM to service time.

Survivors include her son, David Hill (Lisa) of Amory; two grandchildren, Amber Cherry of New Orleans, LA, and Ethan Hill (Amanda) of Greenwood Springs, MS; five great grandchildren, Hannah Cherry, Gabby Cherry, Micah Cherry, Shawn Renfro, and Kayden Hill; a host of other near relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lacy White and Erman White.

Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, Eddie White, Jerry White, Mike White, Kevin White, Carson White, and Tyler White. Honorary pallbearers will be the bus drivers at W. Main Church of Christ and her church family.
