U.S. Senator, Judge. A Kentucky native, he was born on his family's farm near Brownsville. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in Kentucky, and practiced as an attorney in Edmonson County. He was the Edmonson County Attorney in 1902 and 1903. He became the Assistant Attorney General of Kentucky from 1912 until 1915, and then the Attorney General from 1915 to 1917. He served on the Kentucky Tax Commission as chairman from 1917 to 1918 and also was a member of the state board of education. Logan was appointed as Judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals in 1926, presided over the court until 1931, and was Chief Justice during his final year on the bench. Elected as a Democrat to represent Kentucky in the United States Senate, he served from 1931 until his death in 1939. While a member of the Senate, he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1932 and 1936, and chaired a subcommittee that was dispatched to Louisiana to investigate corruption allegations involving the public office positions of Huey Long and John H. Overton. He was the chairman on the Committee of Mines and Mining, and a member of the Committee on Claims. Logan was involved with teaching in schools during much of his life. He taught in the public school system, conducted a training school for teachers, and taught Sunday school for over 35 years. He was also a pioneer promoter of Mammoth Cave as a National Park in 1910 and Grand Sire of the World as a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. A state historical marker was erected at his birthplace in Edmonson County.
