Cecil L. Carthel, 84, of Lockney, TX. died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock.

He was born August 27, 1922 in Floyd County, TX to the late W. A. "Babe" Carthel and Lillie Steele Carthel. Cecil lived in Lockney all his life. He graduated from Lockney High School.

Cecil was a farmer and retired from farming in 1982. He married Charlotte Steen in Portales, NM on May 12, 1942. They were happily married for 64 years. He was in the Marines during WWII.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W. A. "Babe" Carthel and Lillie Carthel; two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Carthel; one son, Charlie Carthel and wife, Barbara of Lockney; one daughter, Lavona Pitchford and husband, Bill of Denton; two brothers, W. L. Carthel and wife, Clementine of Lockney and Ray Gene Carthel and wife, Winnie of Amarillo; two sisters, Velma Harrison of Lockney and Lilian Rogers of El Paso; six grandchildren, Rusty Carthel and wife, Cathi of Big Spring, Becky Meyers and husband, Mike of Rio Grande City, Robin Sidney and husband, Carlos of Lubbock, Brandy Scott and husband, Davis of Krum, Margaret Adams and husband, Bucky of Petersburg and Theresa Pitchford of Denton and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007 at W. College and 3rd Church of Christ. Kyle Brock and Randall Stapp officiated. Burial was in the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Texas Veterans Association, P.O. Box 282, Lockney, Texas 79241.
