Michael Alonzo Adkins

A true storyteller at heart, Michael Alonzo Adkins’ story began on November 26, 1951 in Pulaski, TN. Michael was born the first of two sons, to the union of the late Freemont “Sug” Adkins and Mrs. Cornelia Reynolds Adkins.
Michael graduated from Cameron High School at the age of 16 in 1969. Michael attended Tennessee State University before he enlisted in the military and served in the United States Army for 4 years. He was stationed in Wurzberg, Germany.

Michael met his true love Avis Brown in 1971. After a lengthy relationship, the couple wed September 20, 1975. To this union four children were born, LaTanya Aisha, Michael Rashon, Christopher Darrian, and Daniel Austin Louis Adkins. They were married 21 years and remained good friends thereafter.

Michael enjoyed cooking, singing, playing the piano, and entertaining others with his spirited and energetic story telling. He especially enjoyed making lifelong memories with his four grandchildren.

Michael transitioned peacefully, surrounded by family on June 28, 2018. Cherishing his memory are his mother, Cornelia Adkins; lifelong friend and the mother of his children, Avis Adkins; children, LaTonya Aisha “Ish” Adkins (Robert McDonald), Michael Rashon Adkins, Christopher Adkins and Austin “Lil Sug” Adkins; grandchildren, Christian, Brayden, Dylan, Garrison “Baby G”; devoted cousins Angela Turner and D’hati Moore; and a host of cousins and friends.

Michael was proceeded in death by his father, Freemont Adkins and younger brother, Willis Adkins.
