Rex Brent Hayes, 67, passed away June 28, 2018, in Renton, WA, of cardiac arrest. He was born in Ogden, UT, February 18, 1951, to Max William Hayes and Vella Lutz. He was the second of four children.

Rex graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1969. After serving a full-time mission to Chile for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he married his high school sweetheart, Karren Hawkes, January 12, 1973, in the Logan, UT, temple. They are the parents of five children.

Rex graduated from Weber State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Office Administration. He later graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration. Rex was an educator, an accountant, but spent most of his professional career working in hospital administration. He recently retired after working for nine years in a multi-specialty physician practice where he was not only a boss but a friend, confidant, and advocate for staff and patients. He was well loved by all.

Rex has spent his life serving in various capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a passion for boy scouts. After serving as a leader for many years, he maintained involvement in the program for the remainder of his life. In addition to serving as a scout leader, he served in two bishoprics, as a stake mission president and stake missionary, on the stake high council, and in other callings. His faith and testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, emulated in all aspects of his life.

Rex loved the out-of-doors. He loved hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a wanderer that appreciated all aspects of nature. He shared his love of the out-of-doors with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid gardener. He took great care in creating and cultivating his yards.

Above all, Rex loved spending time with his family. He always made sure they were well taken care of. He was a doting papa to 20 grandchildren. He was content to be at home or visiting his family and participating in activities with them. His unconditional love was felt by all his family. The month before his passing he was able to visit all his children and grandchildren.

Rex is survived by his wife, Karren Hawkes; by his children Michelle (Norm) Gifford, Jared (Kellie) Hayes, Melanie (Ernie) Sorensen, and Ryan (Megan) Hayes; and by his brother Wayne (Pam) Hayes, and sisters Eileen (Steve) Truscott and Karen (Keith) Rustan.
