Salisbury - Kathryn "Kitty" Carey Hill, 100, of Salisbury, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Wicomico Nursing Home. Born on May 25, 1918 in Fruitland, she was a daughter of the late N. Paul and Flossie Sparrow Carey.

She was a longtime member of the St. John's United Methodist Church in Fruitland, MD. Kitty retired in 1983 from Hess Apparel after thirty years of devoted service as a buyer and one time Ocean City store manager. Kitty also worked at Vernon Powell Shoes part-time after her retirement until her eyesight failed her.

When her husband, Earl, was stationed in France, Kitty had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, enjoying every minute of it. Upon her husband's untimely death, Kitty returned to Salisbury and resumed working at Hess Apparel.

Kitty was devoted to her family. She always provided them with shelter, money, advice or a scolding when necessary. Although Kitty never had children of her own, she treated her nieces and nephews as her own and was always concerned with their wellbeing.

Kitty was also devoted to her dogs and cats. She loved them almost as much as they loved her. If archeologists dig up her yard in the future, they will almost certainly believe she was an animal mass murderer!

Mrs. Hill is survived by her nephew, Steven M. Carey of Fruitland, MD; one sister-in-law, Brenda Carey; great nieces, Lauren Carey, Jessica Berg (Jorgen) and Kathryn "Katie" Carey; one great-great niece, Alise Carey; three great-great nephews, Jonas Berg, and David and Dylan McCann; a very special cousin, Marisa Carey, and her partner, Maria Adkins, and numerous other cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Major Earl N. Hill, Jr.; a brother, Eugene M. Carey; a sister-in-law Genevieve F. Carey; one nephew, Patrick E. Carey and an infant brother.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service. Rev. Karen Sadvari will officiate. Interment will follow in the St. John's United Methodist Cemetery in Fruitland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 312 East Main Street, Fruitland, MD 21826 or to the Wicomico County Humane Society, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.

A special thank you goes out to Marisa and Maria who visited her every weekend, brought her treats, combed her hair, painted her fingernails, took her on outings, and were her staunchest advocates. The family would also like to thank the caregivers and administration at Wicomico Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Kitty during her 4 ½ year stay.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.hollowayfh.com.
