Betty Ruth Mullins, age 90, of Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Chester Lloyd and Ora Lavica (Parson) Hill, was born on March 8, 1928, in Decatur County, Iowa. She died at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, on Monday, July 2, 2018.

Betty grew up in Decatur County and attended country school at Terra Haute south of Decatur, Iowa. Later the family moved east of Leon where Betty helped her parents on the farm. On March 17, 1945, she and Myron Brown Hembry were united in marriage and were blessed with six children, Barb, Carolyn, Connie, Judy, Sharon, and Wayne, and lived in Decatur County, Iowa and in Missouri Valley, Iowa for a short time. Later she married Donald Glenn Mullins on December 30, 1970, in Leon, Iowa. His children, Susan, Kathy, and Gregg became part of her family as well. They lived in Leon, Iowa and Pontiac, Illinois before moving to Osceola, Iowa in 1977. Betty and Donald owned and operated a Coast-to-Coast store in Osceola from 1977, until a fire in 1984. Then Betty worked at Robinson’s Store in Osceola for another ten years before retirement in 1995.

In her free time, Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed attending grandkids’ sports activities, birthday celebrations, graduations, and family weddings. She also enjoyed dogs, especially her last dog, Blackie, her rock garden and tending her flowers.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son-in-law, Bill Peck; and siblings and their spouse, Bob Hill, Gerald & Ruth Hill, Pauline & Delbert Bethards, Arlene & Tommy Rauch, Ida Mae & Bill Scholl, Kenneth Hill, and two infants. Survivors include her husband, Don Mullins, of Osceola, Iowa; children, Barb & Dick Toney of Leon, Carolyn Simbro of Altoona, Iowa, Connie & Dwight Edgington of High Point, North Carolina, Judy & Jerry Boord of Leon, Sharon Peck of Osceola, Wayne & Penny Hembry of Albany, Missouri, Susan & Rick Hutchin of Indianola, Iowa, Kathy Mullins of Des Moines, Iowa, and Gregg Mullins of Valley Springs, California; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; brothers and their wives, Bill & Mary Hill of Ozark, Missouri and Shelby & Donna Hill of Boone, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Marge Hill of Leon and Louise Hill of Rogers, Arkansas; brother-in-law and his wife, Howard and Cecelia Mullins of Corwith, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
