Willa Nelson died peacefully on June 28, 2018.

She was born at home in Draper to Samuel and Verda Crane. She was the third of eight children.

Willa married James B. Nelson on September 17, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of Ann N. Miller, Draper; and the grandparents of James B. Tolboe, Salt Lake City; and Christina Sowell (Trandon), Kaiserslautern, Germany. The joy of Willa’s life was her family and that joy will be in our hearts forever.

Willa filled our lives with love, laughter, adventure, and plenty of good food. She learned hard work on her father’s farm and would often say the most difficult work was hoeing and thinning endless rows of sugar beets.

She loved camping, quilting, and most of all spending time with her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

She and Jim were an unstoppable team, working side by side in numerous church callings, with the American Fork Lions Club, and building their cabin near Strawberry Reservoir. Willa worked as the secretary in the open hearth office at Geneva Steel for thirty-two years.

Willa and Jim were rarely alone; they loved including friends and family in every adventure.

Willa is survived by her daughter and grandchildren; siblings, Clyde (Ora) Crane, Draper; Betty Crane, Salt Lake City; and Carolee (Doug) Jenkins, Draper; sister-in-law, Affra Nelson, Sandy; and brother-in-law, Glen Nelson, Orem. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Harold Crane, Lorna Rogers, Ronald Crane, and Merle Crane. She was also preceded in death by her dear, lifelong friends, Wayne L. (Huck) and Leola Durrant. We know she is having a grand reunion with Jim, her parents, and many more.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to Holly Carveth, MD, with the University of Utah Pulmonary Clinic for her expert care of Willa over the last thirty years. We would also like to express our gratitude to Holli Waters, Willa’s home health nurse, to staff at Cedarwood at Sandy, and to the staff at HealthSouth for their loving care.

Willa loved her nephew Sam Crane’s children, several of whom suffer with Cystic Fibrosis. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in the Corner Canyon Stake Center, 13366 South 1300 East, Draper. Friends and family may visit Willa’s family at a viewing held on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, and prior to the services at the church on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment: American Fork City Cemetery.
