Jack Coleman, our dear father and grandfather, passed away at age 97 on July 1, 2018.
He was born June 4, 1921 in Savannah, GA, the son of Carrie and Leo Coleman, Sr. Much beloved by the greater Jacksonville community, Jack passed quietly in his sleep but he will always be remembered as one of Jacksonville’s stellar citizens and an inspiration for many. As President of American Cross-Arm Co., he was a dynamic business leader, but he will mostly be remembered as a community activist and leader. Jack served many Jacksonville institutions as President or Board member for over 50 years. Though this list is but a short synopsis, Jack dedicated his life to serving the River Garden Hebrew Home, Temple Ahavath Chesed, the Salvation Army, the American Jewish Historical Society, the Sons of the American Revolution, and countless other organizations and endeavors.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helene Stern Coleman; daughter, Nancy Silverman; son, Philip Coleman; granddaughters, Cheryl Olds and Sarah Coleman, and grandson Michael Silverman.
A graveside burial service will take place at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA on Tuesday, July 3rd at 4:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Jack’s life will also take place on Sunday, July 29th at 4:00 p.m. at River Garden Hebrew home in Jacksonville.
