William Ray Hunt, 92, born August 1, 1921, went to his Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. (Cap) and Effey Hunt of Liberty Hill, TX, his sister, Helen Hunt Fowler of Liberty Hill, TX and grandson Chad Emanuel Dennison.

Ray leaves behind his beloved wife Jeanette Stone Hunt of 66 years; his two daughters Renee' Hunt Wagner and husband Richard Wagner and Sheila Hunt Dennison and husband John Dennison, both of Hempstead, TX; brother Chester Hunt of Austin, TX; grandchildren Michelle Winkelmann and husband Eric Winkelmann, Cody Dennison and wife Jonniann, Robbin Miller and husband Beau Miller; and great grandchildren Sierra Winkelmann, Ty Winkelmann and Sydney and Emily Dennison.

Ray Hunt was a Mason for 40 years (Post Oak Island 181), a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Scottish Rights, a former member of 1st Baptist Church of Elgin, TX and a member of the East Highway Baptist Church of Temple, TX. Ray and Jeanette moved to Temple 19 years ago where they made their home.

Ray loved his wife Jeanette for 66 years, up or down, thick or thin, he loved her dearly. She was his whole life, besides his girls, grandkids and great grandkids. Ray always wanted the best for her. After the girls Renee' and Sheila were gone and married, he always wanted "Mama" he called her or "Nettie Lou" to have everything he could give her. They both did without for their two girls.

In Ray's early years, he was in the Pro Rodeo Association (Turtle Association) and was a steer wrestler until he broke his leg. Ray was a great horse trainer as well as a great blacksmith.

For many years Ray was a great cook, for he was butcher by trade for many years. He loved to cook. Everyone loved to see Ray come into the VA for his doctor visits because he would always make his pecan pies or his fried pies to bring to everyone.

Ray was a Christian man. He was one of the kindest men you would ever meet. Always thoughtful and would help or do anything he could to help his neighbors or anyone.

I know he is up in heaven riding in the tall pastures on his stud horse "Toots" he loved so much and who has long been waiting for him, riding pastures for the "Great Almighty God" himself, smiling down on his wife and family, waiting for all of us to join him one day in that future.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Providence Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor, TX. Burial to follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
