Carlos Joe Smith, 79 of Blair, WV passed away on June 30, 2018 at his residence. Carlos was known to everyone as either Joe or Papa Joe.

Joe was born October 13, 1938 at Blair, WV to the late Ernal Mason and Audrey Elizabeth Smith. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: his sister, Pauline Wooten.

He graduated from Sharples High School in 1957. Joe married his high school sweetheart Patricia Quillin Smith on July 26, 1957. They were married for 60 years. Joe worked as a coal miner for Sharples Coal for many years. He enjoyed wood working, and spending time with his family. Joe was actively involved in the church he regularly attended, the Blair Church of Christ.

Joe is survived by: his wife, Paticia; children, Terry (Tina) Smith of York, SC, Kinberly (Virgil) Holstein of Cleveland, OH; granddaughters, Rachel (Dustin) Supan of Brunswick, OH, Rebecca Smith of Huntington Beach, CA; great-grandson, Easton Supan of Brunswick, OH; sisters, Dottie Schofield of Columbus, OH, Yvonne (Clifford) Marcum of Surfside Beach, SC, and Debbie Grimes of Jeffrey, WV; special mention to lifelong friend, 1st cousin, and longtime neighbor, Herbert (Hazel) Browning of Blair, WV, and numerous nephews, nieces, and other friends from around the country.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday July 3, 2018 at Akers-James Funeral Home at Logan with John Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday also at the funeral home.
