Shirley Lamb passed away on Saturday, June 9th at the age of 87. She is missed by her loving family: her daughters, Missy and Sharon, grandchildren David, Ashley, Michael and Christopher and great grandchildren Taylor, Ethan, Austin, Lucas and Miles.


Shirley Lamb was born in 1931 in Butte, Montana. She was the only child of Russell and Velma Arndt. She and her family later moved to Helena, Montana where Shirley attended grade school. In 1944 the family moved to Arlington, Virginia. Shirley graduated from Washington-Lee High School in 1949.


Shirley attended William and Mary College for 2 years and became a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She later took courses at George Washington Hospital in Washington, DC and worked there as a Medical Technologist.


Shirley married Don Lamb, an Air Force pilot, in 1953. They were based in Texas and then Duluth Minnesota, where their first daughter Missy was born in 1954.


The Lambs moved back to Arlington, Virginia in 1955 where Don became a pilot for Capital Air Lines which later merged with United Air Lines. Shirley and Don's second daughter, Sharon was born in 1956. They moved to North Springfield, Virginia in 1960 and then to Annandale in 1966.


The family enjoyed sailing their boat in Annapolis for many years. Shirley enjoyed many crafts and hobbies and was a talented seamstress and a gourmet cook. She was a member of the garden club and took great pride in her plants and yard. Shirley later discovered calligraphy and became immersed in it taking many classes in the US and Great Britain. Shirley enjoyed teaching calligraphy at Northern Virginia Community College and continued her own education for many years.


The Lamb family vacationed often in Hawaii, and loved this beautiful paradise. Shirley also loved traveling to Great Britain, especially Ireland and Scotland where some of her ancestors are from.


Shirley spent the last few years enjoying her 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren and her 5 great grandchildren.
