An American minister and a US citizen, The Reverend Appleby was engaged in missionary work for the Southern Baptist Convention, Richmond, Virginia. Death was caused by an intestinal ulcer, for which he had been receiving treatment in Belo Horizonte, where he died, at the Instituto de Radium. (Oddly, there are two reports on his death--one written on a Consular document from Belo Horizonte, Report of a Birth of A Child to an American Citizen. This appears to be an error. A second report, a Death Report, Form 192, was written in Rio de Janeiro. It doesn't appear that there was a child involved, it seems the wrong form was used for the initial report of his death.)

He was survived by his wife, Rosalee Mills Appleby, the joint bearer of passport No. 469586. Mrs. Appleby remained in Brazil and continued working as a missionary until 1960.

Known as Percy, he was also survived by his brother, Melvin P. Appleby, of Tulsa, OK.

From Report of the Death of an American Citizen, Form 192, American Consular Service, Rio de Janeiro, November 16, 1925.
