Edwin W. Sims was a veteran Chicago lawyer and crime fighter.Edwin died June 16,1948 at Saginaw, Michigan @79.
Edwin was admitted to the bar in 1894 and was Cook County Illinois Attorney. He was a Republican,and a US Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. He was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention from Illinois.He was sent by President Roosevelt to investigate fur seal fisheries in Alaska. He tried the $29,000,000 Standard Oil case and was President of the Chicago Crime Comm.,1919-1922.Edwin W. Sims was a very successful man and father of 6 successful children.
He is buried in a private cemetery, Sims Family Cemetery, Au Gres, Michigan.

Sims Township, Michigan was established in 1917 by local residents. The Township was named after Edwin W. Sims who was born in Canada, then his family moved to Bay City, MI. when he was an infant. After graduating from Bay City High School, Edwin attended the University of Michigan and obtained a law degree. He was a successful lawyer in Chicago, a United States District Attorney, and an author of 4 books which enabled him to fulfill a life long dream to build a summer home on Saginaw Bay. He chose a site about 3 miles East of Au Gres, MI. There he purchased several acres on the shore and a small house to use as a summer home. Over the years Sims continued to improve the house and property and added to the acreage until he had over a thousand acres. The property became known as the "Sims Ranch". The ranch served as a conservation area for wildlife, including pheasant, deer and a gathering place for civic leaders. His guests included many prominent politicians including the state governor, Vice Presidents of the United States, state highway commissioners and many others. It was with their support that he was able to start major road development in the area.
