Kennedy, Audrey H. COHOES Audrey H. Kennedy died June 28, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, New York, she was the beloved daughter of the late Howard F. Schoen and the late Martha A. (Vierling) Schoen. She was the wife of the late Francis G. Kennedy. She is survived by two beloved sons, Jeffrey G. Kennedy, attorney, Latham, Paul F. Kennedy, Cohoes; and one special daughter, Linda Kennedy-Rakos of Henderson, Nev. She is also survived by three cherished granddaughters, Connor and Mackenzie Kennedy of Latham and Marissa Rakos of Henderson, Nev.; and one very special loved grandson, Jason Matthew Rakos of Henderson, Nev. She had one grandson, Stewart Kennedy, an angel in heaven. Audrey is also survived by two sisters, Martha A. Bezney, Wharton, N.J. and Geraldine Tedisco, Bradenton, Fla. She also leaves nieces and nephews behind. Audrey was a Registered Nurse; she received her nursing degree from Beth Israel School of Nursing in Manhattan working there for one year before enlisting in the Air Force. Upon returning from Korea; she worked as a Public Health Nurse for two years in the Brooklyn District. and an additional two years for Rensselaer County. She worked at the Cohoes Memorial Hospital for 24 years until it closed, and then worked five years for the American Red Cross in Albany, until she retired in 1990. In 1950, during the Korean War, she was a First Lieutenant with the United States Air Force as a flight nurse with the 101st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron. She flew from Japan to Korea, where she cared for wounded soldiers being transported from Korea to Japan, to Okinawa and to the Philippines. She flew 175 missions and earned the Air Medal, and the Korean Service Medal, United Nations. Audrey was discharged with the rank of Second Lieutenant. After her service, she was appointed to the Air Force Reserve, and later was part of the New York National Guard, where she attained the rank of Captain. As was the practice of the time, she was forced to resign upon delivering her first child in 1960. Audrey was a Life Member of the Boght Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, once having held the offices of secretary and vice president. She was an active member of the Cohoes Senior Center, volunteering for countless events especially enjoying welcoming the dinner guests and signing them in for the dinners. She was a member of the Young in Hearts Group through St. Ambrose Church for many years. She was a member of the St. Ann's Society at Holy Trinity Church. She loved reading, traveling, and her cats. Funeral Services will be held at Stanton-Farrell Funeral Home, 326 Columbia St., Cohoes, NY, on July 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 122 Vliet Blvd, Cohoes. New York, July 3, at 10 a.m. and Interment will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery at 12 p.m. Due to restrictions at the Saratoga National Cemetery for flowers, donations may be made to the Cohoes Senior Center 10 Cayuga Plaza, Cohoes in memory of Audrey.
