After nurturing her family into adulthood and then working outside the home for 20 years, Gloria retired to a fulfilling volunteer life. She loved making Boo Boxes and Bountiful Bags for children and giving adults pecans and Family Circus albums. Honors such as Life Member of Presbyterian Women and 2014 Club Woman of the Year of the Stone Mountain Woman's Club illustrate her devotion to faith and community groups. But it was her careful attention to each person she met, her interest in their families, joys and concerns, and openness to things she might do for them that drew people to her. For her, the fun of having things was giving them away.
"Go-go Gloria" visited all 50 U.S. states and 15 other countries. Her face instantly revealed her feelings, reducing words to extras. Her bright eyes and smile were the only introduction anyone needed to Gloria.
Family members celebrating her life include her daughter, Ellen Moss Forbes and son-in-law, Dean Forbes, of Palo Alto, CA; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Moss of Columbia, SC; four granddaughters, Traci Weiner, Monti Moss, Carmen Blakeslee, and Leigh Ann Pierce; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Billie Sandridge; brother-in-law, Harold Moss; niece Shirley Johnson; cousin Pam Anthony, and a further cascade of kin.
Family members who predeceased Gloria include her husband, Emory Clay Moss, Sr.; her son, Emory Clay Moss, Jr.; her sister, Eunice Hardy; and her daughter-in-law, Ann Plowden Moss.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 7, at 3:00 PM, at Wages & Sons Funeral Home, 1040 Main St, Stone Mountain, GA. The celebration of Gloria's life will be on Sunday, July 8, at 3:30 PM. The venue is her beloved church, Memorial Drive Presbyterian, 5140 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain. The family requests colorful, comfortable dress. Memorial donations may be made to the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta for the benefit of Memorial Drive Ministries, 1024 Ponce De Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30306, or Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC), 4900 Lewis Rd, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
