He was born December 9, 1950 in Herkimer the son of Leona (Madison) Covey and the late James A. Covey, Sr. James was educated in Mohawk schools.
Mr. Covey was last employed in the Produce Department of Price Chopper in Utica.
A man devoted to his loved ones Jim life was centered around his family, especially his sister Kathy who was always there to see that he made every doctor's appointment. He was an avid Amateur Radio operator in his free time. In his younger years, he enjoyed the quality time he spent with his father on their many fishing trips.
Survivors include his mother, Leona of Ilion; three daughters, Lisa Sorenson and husband Kevin of Rome, Jami Macias and fiancée Norman Bessette of Fayetteville, NC and Julia Covey of Fayetteville, NC; two sisters, Carol Jowett and husband Tom of Clinton and Katherine Apel and her daughters, Hope and Tiffany of Utica; five grandchildren, Crystal Linebeck, Taylor Linebeck and fiancée Edwin Colon, Kayla Macias, Michael Bessette and Justin Bessette; three great grandchildren, Abagale Garcia, Johannah Colon and Jaydyn Colon; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Fred Covey and a brother-in-law, Robert Apel.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
