Susie Olivia Wood, 86, of Lawn, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018.

Olivia was born on the Cox Farm in Hamby, Texas on July 9, 1931, as the third of nine children to Jewel and H. P. Lilly.

She attended school at Willowcreek, Clyde, Eula, and Abilene. Her sophomore year, Olivia was voted most beautiful girl at Eula High School.

She worked on the Manley and Cox Farms picking cotton and doing house work. During cotton season she would watch others go to school while she and her siblings picked cotton. At the end of cotton season, she and her siblings would resume school.

After her children were grown, Olivia went to work for U.S. Brass where she worked until she retired.

Olivia met her sweetheart, Glynn Wood, at a party of a good friend, Gladys Townsend, who later became her sister- in-law. Olivia and Glynn were married on June 24, 1951, at Hamby Church of Christ. They had four children: Karen, Roger, Kathy, and Lisa; twelve grandchildren: Kristi Bearden, Zachary Griffith, Wesley Wood, Kelsey Wood, Kyle Wood, Stefanie Cooke, Brandon Cooke, Britni Hicks, David Ortiz, Lori Carmona, April Kaps, and Chris Ortiz; twenty-two great grandchildren and one on-the-way.

Her family was her passion.

She thoroughly enjoyed having everyone come to her house for holidays, birthdays, and reunions.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and loved passing on these traits to her children and grandchildren.

Living a Christian life was most important to her. She was an active member of Lawn Church of Christ and loved singing gospel hymns. She taught Bible classes and every summer was involved in Vacation Bible School.

She enjoyed working with children and served as a foster grandparent at Lawn Elementary School.

Her home was always open for anyone needing a place to stay, including her sister Brenda, some nieces, and her children's friends, Susan Swindle and Andy Prestridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jewel and H. P. Lilly; daughter, Karen Griffith; granddaughter, Stefanie Cooke; brothers, Cleburn Lilly and Loy H. Lilly; sisters, Flora Yawn, Yvonne Foster, Dorothy Bullard, Donna Ramos, and Brenda Lathrop.

She is survived by her sister, Frances Copher of Abilene; son Roger and wife Debbie Wood of Lawton, OK; daughter Kathy and husband Richard Cooke of Abilene; daughter Lisa and husband Joe Ortiz of Grand Prairie, TX.

Arrangements by Piersall Funeral Directors, Abilene.
