In 1972, he graduated from Jefferson County High School in Fayette, MS. He was an excellent student and the First African-American as well as First African-American Male in Mississippi to place in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) statewide competition. That summer, he attended Brooklyn College in New York City, NY.
First, he married Martha Pia Rachedi in New York City, NY, and their union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. After marrying, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, MS. Wanting to further his education, he enrolled at Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS where he met his second wife.
On December 25, 1983, he married Lougenia Grace, the daughter of Caleb Grace and Purvis Naomi Cole Grace, who is a native of DeKalb, Kemper County, MS. They settled in DeKalb, MS where they welcomed their child, a son, and raised their daughter.
At an early age, he attended Poplar Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. To strengthen his relationship with Christ, he joined Mt. Zion Moscow Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS and would later become a Deacon.
David received another touch by the Lord and accepted his call into ministry. Eventually, he was called to pastor Unity Springs Missionary Baptist Church in DeKalb, MS where he served until his health failed. Also during this time, he was initiated and joined the Free Masonry Brotherhood.
He died June 23, 2018 at the age of 63.
He was the Husband of Lougenia Grace Barton; the Father of Christopher Alexander Barton, Elder Daniel Evan Barton, Rashida Marie Barton Jeffries, Victoria Nina Barton, David Alexander barton II, and LaKeshia Grace; the Son of Willie Alexander Barton and Versie Elizabeth Clark Barton; and the Brother of Stanley Barton, John Barton, Christopher Barton, and Ronnie Barton.
