Norie graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1958. She worked as a veterinary technician at Kokomo Animal Hospital. Norie raised and showed Collies, winning many awards. It was her love of animals that in 1960, she helped start Shady Kennels and was a dog groomer and manager there for 50 years. She was a member of the Sharpsville United Methodist Church, and the Tri-Add Home Economic Club. Norie loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed quilting, traveling, listening to music and cooking. Norie had also attended Russiaville United Methodist Church.
Norie is survived by the most important part of her life, her three children, Lance (Chrissy) Adams, Sharpsville, Eric (Julie) Adams, Charlestown, and Robin (Bret) Head, Russiaville; her six grandchildren Tyler (Heather) and Derek (Aubrey) Adams, Kendall and Regan Head, Noah and Grayson Adams; her five great-grandchildren, Brailyn, Landen, Cooper and Camden Adams, and baby Hank Adams due in October, as well as many nieces and nephews; her sister, Candy (Gerald) Howard, Indianapolis; and her brothers, Mike (Linda) Kelley, Sharpsville, and Fred Swafford, Marion.
Norie was preceded in death by her sisters, Pat Swafford, Barbara Swafford, and brother Karl Ruman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, with Pastor Jeff Harlow officiating. Burial will follow in Sharpsville Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-7 pm Monday and one hour prior to funeral service on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Norie was very committed to helping others, memorial contributions may be made in Norie’s memory to the Russiaville United Methodist Church that will be divided between Buddy Bags, Food Pantry and the Women’s Guild.
