A native of Newport News, VA, and has resided in Haywood County since 1949. She was the daughter of the late E.J. Robeson, Jr., and Ruth Richards Robeson.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Weaver Kirkpatrick and her second husband, Matt D. Howell; two sisters, Sarah Robeson and Martha Robeson Boardman; a brother, E.J. Robeson; two stepsons, Dr. Ted E. Howell, and John Cullen Howell; a son-in-law, Bill Prevost; a great grandson, Kaden Dodson.
Ruth Curtis had a B.S. in journalism from UNC Chapel Hill. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Waynesville where she taught Sunday school. Ruth Curtis was a cattle farmer and also raised tomatoes on her farm. She was known for her knitting skills.
Ruth Curtis is survived by her sons, J. Weaver Kirkpatrick, Jr. (Brenda), and Robbie Kirkpatrick (Beverly); two daughters, Becky Prevost, Susan Gallion (Bob); a sister, Frances Hedin; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Howell Blevins (David) and Jean Howell; 18 grandchildren, James Weaver “Kirk” Kirkpatrick, III (Christy), Angell Robeson Kirkpatrick Benson, Mary Curtis Kirkpatrick McCracken (Luke), Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick, Edward John Robeson Kirkpatrick, Sydney Kirkpatrick Dodson (Kevin), Spencer and Macee Kirkpatrick, Trey Prevost (Vanessa), Ruffin Prevost (Michelle), Morgan Moylan (Mike), Thomas Howell (Natalie), Matt Sale Howell (Ann), Robert Gallion, Edith Ruth Harrison (Steve), Morris Gallion (Julie), Cullen Howell (Kristen), Jenny Baldwin (Mark); 33 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Waynesville with Reverend Wallace Tinsley. Private burial was held. A reception will follow the service at the Wells Event and Reception Center.
