Life Legacy

Gladys Lillian “Rick” Holland, 91, died June 27, 2018 in Lerona, WV.

She was born as Gladys Lillian Richmond on May 20, 1927 in Prince, WV to Thomas and Lottie Richmond. She spent most of her childhood years in and around the Sandstone, WV area.

She was a 1946 graduate of Sandstone High School and then journeyed to Charleston, WV, where she entered a nurses’ training program in conjunction with Kanawha Valley Hospital that resulted in her becoming a registered nurse. She spent the late 1940s and most of the 1950s working in various hospitals and doctor’s offices in the Kanawha Valley.

She married Frederick W. Holland on November 2, 1956 and they relocated to Dunbar, WV, where she lived primarily for the next 60 years. “Rick” was a devoted homemaker and a good neighbor, who loved working in her yard while also raising her son, Jim. She also stepped up to be the centerpiece in the care of several relatives in the later years of their lives.

“Rick” spent the last 15 months of her life in the loving care of the devoted guardian angels at Rockin’ Chair Residential Care as well as their attending physician, Dr. William Bird. The family is eternally grateful for the outstanding care that she received there.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents along with two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son Jim and his wife Judy of Princeton, WV, and her step grandson Warren Hypes and his fiancée Brittany Galloway of St. Petersburg, Florida. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Reverend Melissa White officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the service hour Sunday at Seaver Funeral Home. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar.
