Melvin Bennett

Muncie - Melvin (Moon) Bennett 63, Muncie, gained his heavenly wings on Friday June 22, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 24, 1954 to the late Jack Bennett Sr. and Olean Nelson-Bennett. Melvin graduated from Muncie Central and then went on to serve in the United States Navy. He also spent 27 years as a Semi-driver (or product relocator) as he would say. Melvin loved serving the Lord and spent countless hours volunteering at his church and Faith Builders ministry involved in outreach activities, and block parties for the children and community. He loved being surrounded by family and friends and was known for his great sense of humor, and the ability to put a smile on anyone's face. He never met a stranger. Melvin loved fishing, and was a true blue Colts fan.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Jack Bennett Sr. and Olean Nelson-Bennett, daughter Tasha Eckley, Brothers Jack Bennett Jr., James Bennett, Charles Ray Bennett (Sandyman), and sister Victoria Curley.

He leaves to forever cherish his memory his Life Partner Maria Shores, his daughter Melanie Fisher Ward Morton (husband Randy) Muncie, his son Michael Adams Sr, Muncie and his step-sons Charles Hobbs (wife Aleia) Lynn Haven Florida, and Michael Shores (wife Lexi), Muncie. Melvin was a faithful brother to Two brothers H.J Hendrix of Dequeen, James Bennett (wife Maria) New York, five sisters Willie Belle Bowers of Dequeen, Betty Neal of Ashdown, Arkansas, Rita Bennett of Broken Bow Oklahoma, Floy Armstrong (Brian), of Valliant, Oklahoma, Gloria Bennett of Dequeen; his grandchildren Logan, Robert (Boogie), Savannah, Dakota, Zoey, Damian, MaryAnn, Jacob, Jesse, Brooklynn, Ray, Ian, Michael Adams Jr. Arianna, Cheyenne, Haley, Mazon, Michael Shores Jr. Sujuan, Jaisyn, Jonathon, and Julian. Aunts Elnora Seals, Muncie, Virginia Haynes, Atlanta, Ga, Agnus Gilmore and Willie Boyles of Dequeen; one uncle, Leroy Nelson also of Dequeen, Moon's #1 Pam George and his #2 Jackie Bennett. Also a host of special cousins, nieces, and nephews and friends.

The family would like to send a special Thank you to our angels on earth Sarah Bales, Jackie Bennett, Roger Jordan, Elnora Seals (Aunt Tiny), and the entire Rabel family.

A memorial of Melvin's life will be held at Gholar & Gholar Funeral Chapel, 900 Kirby Ave, and Saturday June 30th at 1pm. Viewing will be at 11am to 1pm prior to service. A repass celebration hosted by The Garden at Main St. and Faith Builders at 115 Pershing following the Service.
